German airline Lufthansa is starting new flights from Munich and Frankfurt, in Germany, to Eilat, Ovda Airport, in Southern Israel, starting from October 2018. Each route will have two weekly flights.
The addition of Lufthansa to the list of airlines with direct flights to Eilat is unusual because it is not a low-cost airline. The only other regular airline flying to Eilat is Air Europa, which recently announced flights from Madrid to Eilat.
Minister of Tourism Yariv Levin says that in recent years, 4 weekly flights from Europe to Eilat and barely 500 tourists a week grew to 48 weekly flights and 7,000 tourists a week in 2017.
