About Dragon Boat Racing

Dragon Boat racing originally started in China more than 2000 years ago, originating from superstitious beliefs that the boat racing would push away misfortune and encourage the rains needed for land prosperity. The boats were decorated with a dragon, Asia's traditional symbol of water.
In the last few decades the above traditional race has re-gained its popularity and is now practiced worldwide as a fun sport building strength, endurance and skill along with the sense of teamwork and harmony of purpose.
A dragon boat team consists of 20 paddlers, a drummer who sit in front and a steerperson in the back, working together as one in attempt to reach the finish line in the fastest time.
Teams can be all men, all women, or mixed crews and does not require previous experience. Everyone, from almost any age and ability is encouraged to take part in this exciting, adrenaline pumped sport, in a fun competitive atmosphere, conveying a strong sense of team spirit and satisfaction!

About Dragon Boat Israel

Dragon Boat Israel (DBI) is a joint Canada Israel initiative to introduce the sport of dragon boat racing to Israel.
The mission of DBI is to bring participants to the northern region of Israel for an exciting, team focused event that builds community, supports Israeli charities, fosters cultural awareness and promotes tourism.
It provides a new and innovative way to experience Israel for those who have visited previously and an exciting new travel adventure for those who will be travelling to Israel for the first time.
Dragon Boat Israel is thrilled to present Israel's first dragon boat festival, to be held on May 17 and 18, 2012 on the country's largest fresh water body, Lake Kinneret (the Sea of Galilee).
